Garment, green chemistry and greenscreen certification

Green Chemistry :
Definition of Green chemistry is the process and the design of chemical products that reduce or eliminate or generation of  the hazardous substances.

The chemicals are processed from  feedstocks, reagents and solvents that are less hazardous to human health and the environment. It is also know as sustainable chemistry.

GreenScreen Certification:It is an Independent, non-profitable certification process that promotes the use of inherently safer chemicals in manufacturing and products. There are three categories for Certification of greenscreen Silver, Gold and Bronze.  The apparel industry is now a leading sector in manufacturing and redesigning the manufacturing process which would be safer for not only for people but also for the planet.

Levi Strauss & Co., H&M and the industry collaboration known as Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) are leading the path to identifying and approaching  the safer chemicals for  use in apparel sector.
Clean Production Action launched GreenScreen Certified™ Standard for Textile Chemicals in 2017 to communicate and formulators to reduce the use of high concern chemicals, meet the ZDHC requirements for safer chemicals in textile formulations.
Catalyzed by Greenpeace’s “Detox Campaign” in 2013, the apparel industry is now a leading sector in redesigning manufacturing processes to be safer for people and the planet. Levi Strauss & Co., H&M, and the industry collaboration known as Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) are among the leaders in defining pathways to identifying and selecting inherently safer chemicals for use in the apparel sector. By reducing the hazards of chemicals in manufacturing, the industry reduces the risks of chemicals to workers, communities, and to a brand’s bottom line.
Clean Production Action launched GreenScreen Certified™ Standard for Textile Chemicals in 2017 to enable formulators to communicate actions they are taking to reduce the use of chemicals of high concern, meet the ZDHC requirements for safer chemicals in manufacturing and give brands a clear platform to communicate their requirements for safer chemicals in textile formulations.
